Our January visit was to the Laing Gallery in Newcastle to see their major exhibition ‘”The Enchanted Interior”. Despite the best efforts of the local bus company to thwart our efforts, seventeen members turned up, and it seems everyone enjoyed it immensely. There was some wonderful work on display, ranging from many pieces by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood to examples from the present day, all on the theme of the woman in a patriarchal society. We met for coffee in the Laing prior to our viewing, and a large group repaired to The Botanist for a delicious lunch! Plus, ca change….

Our Group Leader, Mary, is still not fully recovered from her illness, but is working in the background to arrange future excursions, the next being the proposed visit to The University Library on Palace Green in Durham to see ‘The Sketchbooks of Norman Cornish’. This will be on Thursday, 20th February.

Joan Temple has kindly offered to lead our March visit on the 19th to The National Glass Centre at Sunderland to see ‘Bring to Light’ – a very different type of work from that which we have seen recently. Variety is the spice of life!

Exact arrangements, times etc., will be confirmed in the monthly meetings, but I would imagine if you turn up in the coffee bar around 11.00am you won’t go far wrong!

We would love to welcome new members to the group, so do come along if it sounds your kind of thing!
