Introducing the Digital Photography group

Leader:  Brian Angus

We are currently meeting on the first Monday of the month at 10.30 am for photography outings, and then again on the third Monday to review the results.

Our first meeting was in August 2012 at Noses Point where everyone took some very good pictures of the wild flowers, which I have to say were beautiful, as was the weather.  On the third Monday we met at a member’s house to see the results.  Congratulations were offered on the very good work produced and gentle constructive comments made on possible improvements.  For our September outing we travelled all the way to the terrace green and the beach and have yet to review the results.   Once again we were blessed with sparkling weather.

Photography is all about pictures not equipment; cameras don’t need to be expensive, any camera will do.  Modern digital cameras are extremely efficient and will reliably produce perfect pictures – you just have to know where to point them.  That’s my job, so why not give it a go!

Introduction to the Book Club

Our Leader is Jackie Beadling

We are an interesting and diverse group of people who meet once a month to discuss a set book and often to chat about current affairs.

The group is helped along by glasses of wine or cups of coffee as we meet at the “Crow’s Nest Pub” in Seaham at 2.30pm on the first Thursday of the month.

Introduction to the Basic French group

Our group Leader is Carole Fairweather

The French group have almost reached double figures, and we are progressing slowly but surely, not quite fluent yet but we have a very good French Teacher who is helping us with our grammar and pronunciation.

We are now on the last unit of our Breakthrough French 1, book and CD’s so we are trying a little more conversational French

We meet every other Tuesday at 10.30 am at a member’s home usually Carole’s. Just for something different we have watched a couple of French Films which we have enjoyed.

Introduction to Art Appreciation

Our Group Leader is  Mary Coates

We meet monthly on the third Thursday of the month:  The Art Appreciation group is an active group, of about fifteen members, which has visited many galleries and listened to interesting talks.

The venues for our meetings can be local or further afield e.g. The Winter Gardens, The Laing and the Mima; The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, York and London for a Leonardo da Vinci Exhibition.

Transport varies according to venue. We travel by car, Metro or train and we are a very informal group. Thursday is the most convenient day for the majority of our members and we aim to meet at 11a.m. on the Thursday after the U3A meeting. However, if a specific event or talk is held on another day this can vary.

Most of our members appreciate the group because, without it they wouldn’t find the time to visit all the exhibitions we enjoy.
