The singing group is going from strength to strength averaging about 18 participants per month.

In 2014 we concentrated on songs from WW1 which were successfully performed at Mabel’s garden party.

Three lesser known carols performed at the Christmas Lunch seemed to be well received.

Most recently we have learned a variety of new material including rounds, folksongs, and nonsense songs.

One song I found in Windows music shop seemed particularly appropriate. The title is “Everybody Has Music Inside” and one line reads “You don’t have to be a virtuoso; it doesn’t matter if you sing just so-so”.

Discovering that the majority of members do not read music, I introduced a rhythm reading scheme. It worked really well years ago in Primary schools. It is proving more difficult with U3A, but we are progressing and having lots of fun in the process.

A highlight of the monthly meetings is the afternoon tea. Scones with jam and cream, delicious gateaux and sometimes corned beef pie!

We could do much more with a larger group and I know many of you have decent voices. Why not join us once a month for a fun session which in the spirit of the U3A contains an element of learning.
