I am working on a community engagement project on behalf of the charity Sustrans and in partnership with Durham County Council to tie in with the resurfacing of large sections of the Cold Hesledon Walkway/Yellow Brick Road (part of National Cycle Network Route 1) between Dawdon and South Hetton and the replacement of the wooden boardwalk at Pespool Wood near Haswell. We’re trying to find out from local people and other route users what improvements they would like to see beyond resurfacing work due to take place in the coming months. We’re looking to gather opinions from people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities about artwork, habitat improvement and community activities on the route. To do this we’ve launched a survey and I wondered if you could share it within your group and with others who you think may be interested? We hope that following the work the route will be more accessible for those with mobility issues and more comfortable for existing users, making it a better alternative to making journeys by car. We also want to see the community getting involved in activities along the route and helping to look after it into the future and for it to become more than just a way to get from A to B but a place to socialise, exercise and connect with nature.
