Ladies from our U3A Patchwork group went on their travels’ for an enjoyable adventure. This time to Bowes Museum on the 9th February 2016 to experience the work of Pauline Burbridge Quilt maker and textile Artist  from Allanbank Mill Steading.
Once again the group were divided in their opinion of the textile art work but there was no disagreement about the skill required to produce such fine work and the quality of Pauline’s work was excellent. Her work consisted of mainly not all modern monochrome hangings, but there were some works that may be used as a modern quilt. Her use of wild flora transferred onto different types of fabric in various ways was stunning. What was interesting was the background information about each piece and her beautiful sketches of plants and grass etc. and methods she  used for her designs. The group could relate to some of the techniques as they appeared similar to our flower bashing attempts or may be not?
It invoked quite a lot of discussion amongst the group which is also enjoyable to be part of.
We all agreed it was a good exhibition and were all very pleased we had made the effort to attend.
A very good lunch and a hearty laugh rounded the day off nicely!
