It is that time of year when we must once again start making preparations for our AGM and reflect on the past year.

Overall, I think our u3a has had another successful year. However, I would like first of all to think of those members who are sadly no longer with us, especially Margery Lawson, Beth Penrith and recently Allan Gurney. We especially think of their families in their bereavement.

When I say our u3a has had a successful year that is only true because of the hard work of so many members who organise events and activities which we all enjoy.

Firstly, I would like to thank Marian Atkinson our Secretary. Not only does she keep us right with all the rules and regulations, she also produces excellent Minutes of our Trustees’ meetings and then finds time to organise different events such as garden and theatre visits.

Then we have Mike Bacon, our money man. He manages our accounts and keeps everything in good financial order – not an easy job.

I would also like to acknowledge the support and hard work of our Vice Chairman, Gordon Ayre. He contributes so much to the success of our u3a, especially with the organisation of visits alongside his wife Carol.

Just recent we had a lovely weekend visiting Blenheim Palace and Stratford upon Avon. Carol of course, organises some really interesting visits for the Art Appreciation Group while Gordon tries his hardest to keep some of us sober at the monthly wine tasting group.

Next, I must thank Mabel Hepplewhite who finds all the speakers for our monthly meetings. She does a great job which isn’t always easy.

I must also thank the other Trustees who diligently attend our monthly meetings and help make Seaham Harbour u3a the success it is. Over the past year we have been lucky to obtain use of the community room in the Primary Care Centre for Trustee Meetings and various group meetings. Thank you, Lynn, for organising that and the bus pass group.

My apologies for not mentioning all the group leaders but we all know who they are.

We now have 19 interest groups for our members.

Over the past year our membership has remained fairly steady – we have lost a few members for whatever reason but we have also gained some new members. It is always great to hear new members and visitors say how welcoming Seaham Harbour u3a is and that is we should be proud of and long may it continue.

Finally, I would like to thank the officers, Trustees and you the members for the friendship and support you continue to show me – especially at our wine tasting

group!!
