Chairman’s Report (2018)

Once again, I am pleased to report that our U3A has had a successful year. We have managed to maintain the groups which are overall well attended and members are to be congratulated on their support. Hopefully, over the next 12 months we might be able to set up some new groups and if any member has a suggestion please contact the Group Organizer (at present Kathleen C) or any member of the Executive Committee.

Attendance has continued to be good at the monthly meetings where we have had an interesting variety of speakers and entertainment. I’m sure we are all very grateful to Jean M for the time she has spent in the past organising all the monthly programme. Unfortunately, as you are aware, Jean has been critically ill in hospital in London and she is in our thoughts and prayers hoping she will be well soon. Meanwhile, I am pleased to report that Mabel H has agreed to try and organise the monthly programme for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately, the Vice Chairmen resigned from our U3A during the year. This meant I had again to Chair the meetings of the Executive Committee when I was able to attend. I would like to thank all the committee members for their attendance and contribution. Without them our U3A could not function. In particular I would like to thank Gordon A (Treasurer) for his outstanding job looking after the finances., Evelyn C who has done a sterling job taking the minutes, Jean B who looks after our membership, Joan T who produces the format for the monthly meetings and Kathleen C on all matters to do with rules, regulations and organisation of the AGM and EGM..

I would also like to congratulate the members of the Link and Learn Group on the successful completion of their project and the article in the national magazine. It was just unfortunate, that not all members of the group were shown in the photograph.

Finally, I would like to make a plea for your support. We need more members to try and run the monthly meetings, to help run groups and join the Executive Committee so that our U3A can continue to be successful and not depend on a few.
