Wednesday 14th October 2015 six ladies from our group and two visitors from the new Seaham U3A sewing group set off to York Quilting Museum.

It was with some sadness as the museum is to close the present venue at the end of the month. We have enjoyed our trips to the Quilters Guild beautiful hall not to mention the fantastic exhibitions we have had the privilege to attend.

The exhibition this time was mainly modern art wall hangings. We appreciated the delicate works of art and the hours of work it will have taken to complete them to the high standard of needlework on show. Also the use of colour and fabrics was inspiring.

However the general consensus of the group was we prefer the old and modern quilts with traditional blocks, rather than the art displays!!!!

One exhibit of a dress of probably the 1950’s era with hand embroidered quotes of how to be a good wife brought a smile to our faces. Also another hanging that instructed ladies that a good foundation garment was vital girls and of course one should always go out wearing ones hat and gloves!!

No photographs sorry they were not permitted.
