On. January 20th 22 of our group met to visit the ‘Print Goes Pop’ exhibition at the Hatton Gallery at Newcastle University. It was a fascinating collection of prints and the experience was made all the more enjoyable because we were shown around it by one of the curators, Hazel, who did a wonderful job of explaining the ideas behind the work.

Our February visit was to the studio of Ray Lonsdale, the brilliant, self-taught local artist who created ‘Tommy’ and many more metal sculptures which can be seen ever-further afield from his home base in South Hetton. It was truly enlightening to see him in his working surroundings, and his easy, self-deprecating manner was a joy to experience. He asked for questions-and we certainly came up with plenty!
Later, about twenty of us descended on East Durham Garden centre for lunch- lovely!
