We began our walk on Friday 7th April from The Gala Theatre and made our way to the riverside, crossing Baths Bridge (baths now becoming derelict) we turned left along the riverbank. A cricket match Durham County versus The University team was in progress as we passed. Work reinforcing the embankment at Pelaw Woods was still in progress, onwards towards Maiden Castle sports ground and into the woods at Houghall. Comments on the new buildings at the college suggested they looked like kennels.

With the thoughts of refreshment at the Botanic Gardens we battled our way up the incline (put the roses in our cheeks) and had a welcome break.

On resuming our walk around the top of the woods and descending from Mount Joy towards the university buildings. A fine view of the Cathedral from here. Following the road down towards the city we finished our walk at  Elvet bridge.

Thanks to George Fairweather for leading this walk and to Carole who accompanied him on his earlier reconnoitre.
