Excellent weather for our June walk from Rainton Gate to Finchale Abbey, the wind had eased making it much more pleasant to be outdoors. The Rainton Gate was nowhere to be seen as we went on our way only the hinge post left. The group looked happy as we approached Cocken Woods the most picturesque way to access the Abbey. Crossing the bridge (can you remember when this was a toll bridge I think it was a penny). Our group made a B line for the shop for refreshments and enjoyed these in a little oasis of quiet and beauty. After our rest we set off back to Rainton Gate. A hardy soul (Gordon Ayre) taking the more strenuous route up the steps from the Abbey waiting for us as we came up through the woods.
