We have in common an interest in art and enjoy experiencing it in many forms. We visit galleries and occasionally studios across the North East, some using public transport and others cars. Hopefully our visits are fun, often including coffee and/or lunch.
Our visit to the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle on February 20th.was the first for many of the fifteen strong group. On Thursday, 16th January, our group visited the Mima to view William Tillyer’s exhibition “Against Nature”. We thought we ought to view his work because of statements such as that by Brian Appleyard, writing in the Sunday Times, saying: “Many people think he is the finest painter in Britain”. [...]
Our “Autumn Term” of 2013 began on 19th September with a visit to Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens to view “The Vanity of Small Differences”, an exhibition of tapestries by Grayson Perry. After lunching at Café Spice, we arrived at Sunderland City Library where we enjoyed a very interesting and informative talk about Fabergé by Robert Moon. This was one of a fortnightly series of talks initiated by the Library entitled “Nifty Fifties.”
The Laing Art Gallery was our venue for the outing on Thursday, March 15th. One exhibition centred on Sting's commissioned painting “Northern City Renaissance, Newcastle, England (2004-2008)” by leading contemporary American landscapist Stephen Hancock.
